Nearly 25 years later, Abad Cruz, now 29, is living the life his mother wanted him to have. This was possible in large part thanks to an Obama-era program known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or Daca, which shielded nearly 800,000 young immigrants brought to the US as children from the threat of deportation.
